The start of something different

So I was sat watching my 8 month old twins playing the other day and realised just how different in personalities they are. Not that much of a surprise considering they have been totally different since birth, but still a revelation in terms of what I was thinking about at the time – Reading.

I love reading, and love to read to my children. I read to my older kids till they were about 6 or 7 (only stopped because trying to read Harry Potter in instalments took too long), and have recently started reading bedtime stories to my nearly 3-year-old. He’s easy, if its got a vehicle in it he’ll sit still. But the twins, well…. they might both be girls but they will turn round to listen to different stories that I read their brother. One likes Thomas the Tank Engine books, the other likes the simpler books like Dear Zoo. There comes both my dilemma and my thought for a blog.

Do I read them a book each? Find books they both like? Or read one that one likes one night, and one for the other the next? It occurred to me there might be a story in this journey and that along the way maybe I could help other parents choose books for their children based on my experiences. Of course, that I get to rabbit on about one of my favourite subjects and can even tell you all about my favourite authors etc is just a big old bonus.

So, where do I start? Well as they are both in bed tonight I guess that’s a question for tomorrow, after I work out how to hold them both on my lap and turn the pages of the book at the same time and what I’m doing with the toddler.
